81.  The Valeni geological outcrop (3 hectares) is situated in a ravine on the left slope of Prut River at 0.5 km to the south of Valeni village, Cahul region (X=28°10'15" Y=45°57'15").

It is a section, characteristic of the Upper Pliocene alluvial deposits with fluvial molluscs shells of Levantine type and Tamanian and Moldovian (“Rousillon”) land-mammal assemblages. It is protected as a scientific reserve.

82.  The Giurgiulesti geological outcrop (5hectares) is situated in the “Ripa Creanga” ravine on the left slope of Prut River near the confluence with Danube to the south of Giurgiulesti village, Cahul region (X=28°12'40" Y=45°28'30").

The Giurgiulesti geological outcropIt is a section with Upper Pliocene alluvial deposits with molluscs shells of Levantine type at the base and Upper Pleistocene estuary like deposits with oligohaline molluscs above. It is protected as a worldwide known scientific reserve.

83.  The Cociulia fossils site (1 hectare) is located in a sand-and-gravel quarry at 1km to the north-west of Cociulia village, Cahul region (X=28°25'30" Y=46°22'15").

The Cociulia fossils siteHere, above the brackish Lower Pontian sandstone, Upper Pliocene conglomerates with remains of a Moldovian land mammal fauna of Early Villafranchian occur. It is protected as a scientific reserve.

84.  The Tartaul-de-Salcie geological outcrop (2 hectares) is situated in “Ripa Boierescu” ravine on the left slope of Salcia River’s valley at 2 km to the south of Tartaul-de-Salcie village, Cahul region (X=28°24'40" Y=45°59'30").

The Tartaul-de-Salcie geological outcropIt is a section with Lower Pontian brackish deposits at the base and Upper Pliocene alluvium above them. It is protected as a scientific reserve.

85.  The Moscovei fossils site (10 hectares) is located between Moscovei and Dermengi villages, Cahul region in Upper Pliocene alluvial deposits (X=28°23'50" Y=45°53'05").

The Moscovei fossils siteHere remains of a Early Villafranchian land mammal fauna, described in geological literature as “Moldavian Rousillon” or “Moldavian assemblage”, occur. It is important for geological correlations and paleogeographical reconstructions and is protected as a scientific reserve.

86.  The Budai geological outcrop (5 hectares) is situated in a ravine on the right slope of Salcia valley at the western margin of Budai village, Cahul region (X=28°27'20" Y=45°50'50").

The Budai geological outcropAt the base of the outcrop Lower Pontian brackish fosiliferous deposits appear; they are unconformity covered by alluvial sediments with bones of an Early Villafranchian (Moldovan) land-mammal fauna. It is protected as a scientific reserve.

87.  The Musaitu geological outcrop (5 hectares) is situated in a ravine in the middle part of Musaitu village, Cahul region (X=28°30'00" Y=45°49'10").

The Musaitu geological outcropThis outcrop contains Lower Pontian limestone at the base with an alteration crust of “terra rossa” type above and Upper Pliocene alluvial deposits with remains of an Early Villafranchian (Moldovian) land-mammal fauna. It is protected as a scientific reserve.

88.  The Taraclia geological outcrop (4.1 hectares) is situated on the left slope of a small ravine at the southern margin of Taraclia town, Taraclia region (X=28°39'30" Y=45°52'50").

Here Lower Pontian fossiliferous limestone (calcarenite) and sand appear; they are covered by an alteration crust of “terra rossa” type at the base and by a lateritic one (brown-red clay=Etulia beds) above. It is protected as a scientific reserve.

89.  The Pelinei fossils site (5 hectares) is located in the neighbourhood of Pelinei village, Cahul region (X=28°19'40" Y=45°49'00").

The Pelinei fossils siteHere, in the Upper Pliocene alluvial deposits, remains of an Early Villafranchian (Moldovian) land mammal fauna and fluvial molluscs shells of Levantine type occur. It is important for geological correlations and paleogeographical reconstructions and is protected as a scientific reserve.
